FAQ’s

Below is a selection of questions that we are asked most often, if you have any other questions please contact us.

“I’ve never been to a class before, what should I expect?”

Every class is a little different, but one of the great things about our professional SPINNING program is that it is adaptable to your fitness level.

Remember, there’s no competition. Listen to your body and adjust the resistance on your bike accordingly.

“Do I have to be in great shape to participate?”

Absolutely not! Anyone can benefit.

And because you can go at your own pace by controlling the resistance on your bike, taking Spinning classes is a great way to feel great!

“What is so different about Spinning, than other exercise classes?”

Top-notch instructors, invigorating music and visualization come together to make our classes both fun and effective.

There are no complicated moves to learn. Simply hop on your bike, set the resistance to the level that’s right for you, and let your instructor guide you through a fantastic ride.

“How can wearing a heart rate monitor help me?”

Wearing a Heart Monitor is like giving the Heart a voice that you can understand and hear more clearly than maybe just relying on your general feeling. All our classes at Indoor Group Cycling are ridden according to Heart Rate energy Zones.

The latest research now shows, that cardiovascular training is more efficient for weight loss when coupled with resistance training. This is exactly what SPINNING achieves!

It is our wish to better educate you about your body and the way it performs.

Please feel free to ask any of our instructors for more details concerning our unique Heart Rate Master classes.

“Will it make my legs bulk up?”

Toning and shaping the top of the leg requires a more diverse understanding of the nature of the dynamics involved. Firstly a muscle needs to lose the layer of fat that surrounds it, and then that muscle needs to be defined.

So the thigh muscle loses the comfy little flab that hides it from admiring eyes. But here comes the best bit! Because SPINNING focuses onto the legs, they adapt to the load, define themselves and start looking “SHAPELY, SEXY & TONED”. Even better though, in a class we climb hills and to help assist the thigh muscles, the body turns to the Gluteus Maximus muscle above all else, forcing the bum to adapt, define and start looking “SHAPELY, SEXY & TONED” too!

So ” Will it give you big legs?” Absolutely not! Great Looking Legs YES!

“Will cycling shoes help me?”

Cycling shoes are made with a very stiff sole that enables more powerful pedal strokes.

Cycling shoes can also be used with clipless pedals, which facilitate a push/pull action and more efficient pedal strokes.

“How many calories will I burn in a class, and what is the approximate distance travelled in road miles?”

The number of calories you’ll burn depends on a number of factors, including your weight and the intensity at which you exercise. However, research indicates that on average, participants burn between 400-500 calories in a 40-minute class.

To lose fat we need to increase our metabolism and create a negative energy balance. e.g. in general expend more calories / energy then we are consuming.

The old theory was to take our heart rate to 50-60% of our maximum and burn fat as the primary fuel source. Walking fills those criteria, but the process is slow and inefficient. We are talking about 3-4-hour walks to see results.

The distance traveled depends on cadence; however as an estimate, an average 40-minute class at a cadence of 80-110 rpm is equivalent to approximately 15-20 miles on the road.
